Influences
My artwork is influenced by a number of things including other artists and designers, music, advertisements I see in my everyday life, and I continue to find new things that inspire me every day. I will share with you some of the things that have influenced me in the past.
Pop Art
My favorite artist is Roy Lichtenstein. I love the graphic feel that he brings to his work and the punchy primary colors make his work stand out in a way that sets him apart from other artists. Below is a piece of his work that I actually had the pleasure of seeing in person in The Milwaukee Art Museum. I also included a piece I did in his style.
Music
My favorite musical artist is Jack Johnson. I often listen to it when I am working because of the mellow sound he has, it is calming and allows me to get lost in my art and just appreciate what I am working on at the time. I am also inspired by his album art which I have become quite familiar with in a recent project for my 2D Digital Imaging class, where I created an album cover for a fictional EP. It is included in my portfolio under the “2D Works”. Below are a few of his album covers that I find very visually appealing.
Baroque
I am very influenced by the elegant style of Baroque art. It dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, and I believe that like fashion, art will always repeat itself and what was once outdated will eventually become popular once again. I enjoy the ornate and extravagant look of Baroque and enjoy incorporating it into my work and putting a modern spin on it.
